Creating unity among Ahiska Meskhetian Turks. DAYTON, Ohio - The Ahiska Turkish American Community Center's goal is to create unity among Ahiska Meskhetian Turks.
It's located at the former Bomberger Center on Dayton's east side. A grand opening was held Friday night. Several city officials, as well as community leaders were on hand for the event; including Mayor Garry Leitzell and former Ohio Governor Bob Taft. The community center is a non-profit organization serving not only Ahiska Meskhetian Turks refugees but also immigrants and under-privileged communities in Montgomery County. The Ahiska Meskhetian Turks began settling in the US in 2005. At that time, there were only 6 Ahiska families in Dayton. Now, there are more than 400 families. The founder tells 2 News that this community center took about 7 months to renovate and he welcomes people of all backgrounds. ©
