Also known as Ahıska Turks, the Meskhetian Turks were ethnic Turks who formerly lived in the Meskheti region of Georgia near the border with Turkey, but have since been widely dispersed along the former territories of the Soviet Union due to forced deportations.

"Among those who want to immigrate to Turkey, starting with those facing the most difficult circumstances, Turkey has decided to accept 677 resident migrants as of 2015,” read the announcement on Sunday’s Official Gazette, the official record where legislation passed by the Turkish Grand National Assembly is published.

According to the law regarding residence, resident migrants are defined as "those who belong to Turkish ethnicity and culture and are brought in from abroad via special laws, and are given residences by providing them immovable property.”
