70th anniversary of forced deportation of Ahiskan Turks from ethnic lands during WW II 14 Nov 2014 Marking Day of Remembrance of victims of the deportation of Meskhetian Turks from their enthnic territories that went to Georgia in the result of the post war repartition.  On November 14, 1944, almost 120,000 Meskhetian Turks natives, including old men, women and children, were exiled to Central Asia. Many were given just 10 minutes to pack their belongings and climb aboard freight trains for the long journey to the Central Asian steppe.The victims were only allowed to take three days' worth of rations and spent a horrifying two or three months on the road. Thousands died every day and the bodies were simply tossed out of the cars at every railroad station. Stalin justified the move by saying the two Meskhetian Turks had collaborated with the invading German army. Many Ahiska Meskhetian Turk's had in fact fought on the front lines of the Soviet war against the German aggressor. Thousands of Ahiska Meskhetian Turk's died on the field of battle, with many becoming war heroes. Even though many decades have passed, the Second World War is still an unanswered question for the Ahiska Meskhetian people, and this historical burden inevitably impacts the continuing development of Ahiska Meskhetian Turk's society today. We Must Do Everything Possible So That Meskhetian Turks young generation living abroad to know how their forefathers were forcibly deported from Ahiska on Nov 14,1944 and sent by "the railway of the death” wagons for the transportation of cattle.  Soviet confidential documents have revealed that the decision was personally signed by Stalin. Soviet officials did not let them bring any private belongings and forced them onto trains carrying them to unknown destinations. During the deportations, thousands of Meskhetian Turks passed away due to poor nutrition and epidemic diseases.They were indiscriminately forced to work in camps. Saying about this it should be noted that the state, which annihilated Meskhetian Turks Nation, the destruction of the Ahiska Motherland, does not exist now. Nevertheless, the oppression, terror and violence still continue. Although it is crystal clear that the expulsion of Meskhetian Turks from their homeland is a violation of human rights, the idea of their return home has not been welcomed.Georgia, as a pre-condition of membership to the Council of Europe, promised in 1999 to facilitate the return of Meskhetian Turks to the country. Furthermore, both sides agreed to accomplish the returning of the Meskhetian Turks in a period of 10 years. However, there have been no concrete steps taken to initiate the process. Today, more than 400 thousand Meskhetian Turks are living in 14 different countries away from their Homeland. Giorgians have created thousands of works that are filled with deliberate lies. From pollution to politics, the era of deception and duplicity has reached new heights.It is alarming that the people from the generation that survived the deportation say that living for The Ahiska Meskhetian Turk's today is more frightening than the terrible years of 1944 to 1956. The Ahiska Meskhetian Turk's problems are ignored and sacrificed to the ambitions of certain leaders, probably take another 70-year for the international community to call things by their real names.  Today the Meskhetian Turks remain dispersed across Eurasia and other regions. Substantial Meskhetian Turk populations exist in Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Uzbekistan and the US. The Meskhetian Turks in the US are refugees resettled from Krasnodar Krai in Russia. Although they still suffer from discrimination and exclusion. The Meskhetian Turks have made significant progress in repairing the damage inflicted upon their national existence by Stalin. This recovery has been an incredible feat. On this sad and sorry day, the Ahiskan people appeal to all governments, all nations, all faiths and all people of good will to remember our plight. The systematic repression and annihilation of our nation is a crime of aggression and a crime against the human family. Together, we can stop this war before it is too late.
